Somi Vilakazi was a South Africa coffee shop owner who operated at Hector Peterson Memorial in Soweto popular with tourists. He loved history and culture something that made him very popular with tourists and locals. He died of coronavirus on 11 April 2020. He was laid to rest on 16 April at Nasrec Memorial Park in Johannesburg.
Somi Vilakazi was 56 years old when he died on 11 April 2020.
Wife and Children
Somi Vilakazi's first wife died in 2005 leaving a son who is now 20 years old. Vilakazi had recently married a new wife and they had a son together.
Somi Vilakazi's grandfather was South Africa’s first black lecturer at Witswatersrand University and produced an English/Zulu dictionary during the apartheid a monumental achievement. Vilakazi who was very proud of his grandfather had built a mural for him at coffee shop. The mural was very popular with tourists.
Somi Vilakazi was also a cousin of popular broadcaster and author Red Tlhabi's husband Dr. Brian Tlhabi. Dr. Tlhabi and Somi were very close according Red Tlhabi.
