Zola Nombona

Zola Nombona is a South African actress best known for her role as Shado, a streetwise teenager, in the second season of the SABC1 drama series Intersexions, in 2013. It was her first major acting role.

She was born on 10 March 1992 in Mthata, Eastern Cape in South Africa.

She went on to study drama and acting at Victoria Girls High School before pursuing the trade at Wits University where she studied for an honours degree in Dramatic Arts.

For Eastern Cape-born Zola the acting bug bit by chance, when she acted as Sarafina at a family friend's graduation ceremony in junior school. Intersexions was her first television acting part and she played a featured role in Episode 5 as Shado, Rosie's quirky and fun cousin.

Later in 2013 she landed a starring role in an episode of the e.tv anthology series Mzansi Love: Kasi Style ("Sexy.com", Season 2, Episode 3). Her character, Sindi, is a writer, blogger and (single) "it girl" who is idealistic about the internet and communicates through her blog "Sassy, Single in SA". Her co-stars in the episode were Litha Booi and Sthembiso Khoza.

Also in 2013, she had a recurring role as vain, narcissistic and utterly controlling Lerato, who uses her extraordinary beauty to lure and control adoring men, in the SABC1 sitcom Single Guys.

She revived her role as Lerato from Single Guys in the spin-off sitcom Single Galz, in which she moves in with her girlfriends in 2014..

In 2015 she had a starring role in the e.tv drama series Z'bondiwe as Mafungwashe 'Roxanne' Nozulu, an intelligent, beautiful woman who made a mistake as a teenager that has come back to haunt her.

In the same year she also starred as Kat in the second season of SABC1's Shakespeare inspired series Forced Love.

She won the Safta Award for best achievement by a lead actress.

Love life

Zola was rumoured to be dating Lockdown producer Mandla N in 2019. This was after she sent a birthday shout out to producer and actor which raised a couple of eyebrows, speculating that the pair might actually be in a relationship.

Recently, Zola Nombona and Thomas Gumede announced that they are expecting a baby. The actress (Zola) shared her first baby bump on her Instagram in February 2020.
