Early life & Education
Noortje Herlaar grew up in Maassluis and took ballet lessons from the age of four. At the age of nine she attended the dance academy in Rotterdam . At the Gymnasium (Stedelijk Gymnasium in Schiedam ) she played in various school productions and in addition she took six years in her free time at the Hofplein youth theater school in Rotterdam, where she was seen in several performances. In 2003 Herlaar began her studies at the Music Theater Academy of the Rotterdam Conservatory Codarts. Here she had singing, dancing and acting lessons. In addition to her studies, she was the lead singer in various bands, including the big band of Koos Mark and the ten-person 70s / 80s show bandDISCO . In 2007 Herlaar was seen with her solo program La Vie en Rose at the Comedy Theater in Amsterdam

After completing her studies, Herlaar first played in the ensemble of the Terra Theater in the play Matroos in de Doos (based on a book by Daphne Deckers).
Then she got a role in the musical Dirty Dancing in Utrecht . In September and October 2009 Herlaar starred in the musical Urinetown . Herlaar is also active as a voice actress in various cartoons and series.
In 2010, she spoke the voice of Barbie in the Disney animated film Toy Story 3.
Herlaar has appeared in the doctor series De Mannen Van Dokter Anne since 2015 , and in 2016 she played a role in the television production Bouquetreeks De Film: Trots en require.
In 2013, Noortje made her screen debut in the critically acclaimed TV series, Mother I want to join the cabaret. For this role she received raving reviews for her portrayal of a feminist young woman in the fifties who is forced into marriage due to an unexpected pregnancy, and was awarded the Dutch film award – The Golden Calf – for Best Actress.
Noortje went on to play the iconic Dutch chansionnière Liesbeth List in the miniseries Ramses, which won the prestigious Nipkow Award 2014 for Best Dutch TV series of the year and the Prix Europa for Best European TV Fiction Serial 2014, about legendary Dutch musicians Ramses Shaffy and Liesbeth List, set in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The same year, Noortje made the leap to the global stage with a guest role in the second season of the international TV series Crossing Lines , playing the lead role in episode 4. Also, she can be seen in one of the lead roles in the Belgian film Paradise Trips by director Raf Reyntjes. Later this year, she can be seen in a supporting role in the US movie The Hitman’s Bodyguard, starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson
Over the years, Noortje has voiced many animation characters, such as Anna in Frozen, Barbie in Toy Story 3, and Juliet in Gnomeo & Juliet.
Film productions in her home country The Netherlands include In My Father’s Garden (2015) , the family film When my Father Became a Bush and the musical romcom Seventh Heaven, which will hit screens later this year.
She starred as Estelle in Just Say Yes, a 2021 Dutch film directed by Appie Boudellah and Aram van de Rest, written by Appie Boudellah, Mustapha Boudellah, Marie Kiebert and Maarten van den Broek and starring Yolanthe Cabau, Huub Smit and Jim Bakkum.
