Nicole Garcia, daughter of Joseph Garcia, trader, and Marie Bergamo, was born into a Pied-Noire family in Oran , where she spent her childhood and adolescence.

Nicole is known for My American Uncle (1980), Alias Betty (2001) and Le fils préféré (1994).


She directed 3 full length feature films that were screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival: The Adversary (2002), Selon Charlie (2006) and From the Land of the Moon (2016). None of these movies received a single award from the jury.


She has two literary roles in common with Emmanuelle Riva: Thérese Desqueyroux, which Riva portrayed in the cinematic feature Therese (1962) and its TV sequel La fin de la nuit (1966) (and she took on in La fin de la nuit (2015), a more recent TV adaptation of the second novel) and Barny in an episode of La grande collection (1991), a role previously played by Riva in Léon Morin, Priest (1961). The two actresses worked together in A Greek Type of Problem (2012).
