Her mother, Carolyn, wrote a note to get her out of school when she was only 8 years old to go see her very first movie, "Hair." That Christmas, when her grandmother gave her very first $20.00 bill , she went straight to the record store to buy her very first album: the soundtrack to "Hair."

Years later, she actually spent some screen time with her very first childhood crush, Treat Williams -- in both The Staircase Murders (2007) and Maskerade (2010).

She was the best Actress Nominee (2013) - Terror Film Festival (Philadelphia) - Rainbows End - short (2012). Lara also appeared in The Big Short (2015) which won the 2016 Academy Award for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay and which was also nominated for Best Picture.

She also featured in Rectify (2013), the recipient of the 2015 Peabody Award.

Lara was originally cast as the Hypnotized Woman in Now You See Me (2013) but had to drop out to play Megan Harris in Treme (2012) opposite David Morse which was shooting the same day.

She also appeared as the Doctor in When the Game Stands Tall (2014) but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

In 2020, she portrayed the role of Detective Susan Hayes in Body Cam film.
