Mwonzora wins chaotic MDC-T presidential election

MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora has been declared the winner of MDC-T presidential election held yesterday at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC). Mwonzora got 883 votes out of a declared 1 027 total ballots while Thokozani Khupe polled 118 votes with Elias Mudzuri getting 14 and Morgen Komichi getting 9 votes. 2 ballots were declared spoiled.

The voting process was marred by chaos over the voters roll with rival candidates Thokazani Khupe and Douglas Mwonzora confronting each other amid fears of vote rigging. Khupe walked out of the congress in protest.

A viral video on social media appear to show her being slapped in the face and also being called names as she walks out HICC.

Khupe later held a press conference in which she alleged vote rigging and "suspended" Douglas Mwonzora.
